The following is a brief description from the Stokesville Gravel – Gaps & Hollows Event promoter:
This amazing 130 K / 80 Mile route rolls out gently into the Shenandoah Valley along scenic back roads before crossing a few historic Civil War bi-ways in Churchville where it continues towards Swope, Virginia. Just past Swope it climbs and descends Troxell Gap and then twists around a few smaller mountains before coming to the centerpiece of the ride – Hite Hollow. The climb up Hite Hollow onto Great North Mountain is certainly solid. The soul crushing switchbacks will afford you the view of someone 1 minute or more ahead. The rewards of the descent are well worth it as it arc’s in and out of the Hollows for what will seem like forever.
There is a very good chance to collect some cagey climbers as you roll through Deerfield towards West Augusta and the final Forest gravel segment back to Stokesville.
