The following is a brief description from the Tour de Shunk Event promoter:
Our story… In the mid-1990s, local cycling enthusiasts decided to turn their favorite routes into a Century Ride, showcasing the beauty of riding in Sullivan, Bradford, Lycoming, and Tioga counties – while raising funds for local charities at the same time. The Tour de Shunk was born, named after a small town in Sullivan Co. just beyond a steep climb up Wheelerville Mountain. Rocky’s Bike Shop has hosted, where family & volunteers fix a spaghetti supper afterward while the Fireflies Massage Team worked to soothe sore muscles. Since its start, the event has generated over $100,000 for several nonprofits including Livestrong, ThinkBIG, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Please see the Tour de Shunk Event website, Facebook page, or registration page for more. Riders can choose to ride one of several pavé and gravel routes.
